About the Author

Jacinta Chan trades full time for a living.  She was the head of the derivative desk of a large investment bank in South East Asia where her responsibilities included the sales and dealing of futures and options contracts. She also conducts continued professional education for other professionals in her field, besides giving lectures for her online university course. Jacinta is the author of Pearson Malaysia’s book, Everything Technical Analysis.

Almost too much concision.

This primer on technical analysis, emphasizing the usefulness of charting and technical indicators, is concise, direct, and well-organized. In spite of its compactness, the author manages to rely on one of the time-honored benchmarks of education: repetition. In each short chapter, she introduces her main points via bullet points, briefly describes her points with graphic examples, and concludes by reproducing her bullet points. A reader could (and this one did) wish for more examples, exceptions to the rule, even anecdotes. A professional trader, the author makes clear which indicators she feels are more reliable than others, and in what contexts each indicator might provide value. While she acknowledges that a trade has a 50-50 chance going either in your direction or the other, she states that a disciplined, knowledgeable trader can tilt the odds in his favor by deploying a mechanical, scientific method to his trading. This book aims to equip the reader with that method. A good introduction to the topic, but with a British bias. Helpful links to the Financial Times for additional information and interactive charting.

Good book, has some helpful information, but I'm not sure if her system will work on multiple markets and she leaves the last key to the reader to figure out.

This is a simple, concise book about the extremely pertinent ecological, economic and social impact of materials and methods of construction in traditional versus modern mid-eastern architecture. Hassan Fathy, founder of the International Aga Khan Architectural Awards recognized organic approaches to architecture long before it became vogue to do so.
As a resident of Southern California I'm concerned that this obvious need to regard the conductivity of materials as well as their application in architecture and landscape architecture is under-acknowledged. The collective impact of disregard for the heating influence of materials on our shared environment could likely reverse the affects of strict water conservation measures. This book has a traditional and philosophic view to the effects of environment on man and his architecture; this view could be affected by its authors, especially Hassan Fathy.

Although "Natural Energy and Vernacular Architecture: Principles and Examples with Reference to Hot Arid Climates" give you a wide range of environmental idea, but, Almost without any clear referring to done study or established researches, this book try to explain the some thermal techniques for thermal comfort achievement.

This book includes two parts. In the first part we can see the relationship between Man, Natural Environment and Architecture as three impressible factors. This part of book is in tow chapters. In chapter one, we become familiar with relationship between environment and architecture, the effect of climate on architectural form, environment, conscious modification of microclimate and finally trends in international architecture. Chapter tow includes architectural thermodynamics and human comfort in hot climates, temperature, thermal conduction and resistance, radiation, emissive, absorptive, and reflectivity transparency. In other sections of this chapter we learn about thermal convection, atmospheric pressure, water vapour, cooling by evaporation, thermal gain, thermal loss, dynamic thermal equilibrium, heat-regulating mechanisms of human body, and measurement of conditions of human comfort.

The second part tents to natural energy and vernacular architecture. This part includes four chapters. In first chapter of this part - the third chapter of book - we can learn about architecture and comfort, architectural design for a comfortable microclimate, and building materials. Chapter four assigns to the sun factor, orientation, shading, facades, openings and the roof. Chapter five is in the wind factor in air movement, air movement by pressure differential, the Claustrum, the wind-escape, the Malquf, and the Badgir. As the sixth chapter we can know in the sun factor in air movement, air movement by convection, the courtyard house, the Takhtabush and traditional city layout and climate. For chapter seventh the humidity factor, the fountain and the Salsabil have been seen.

Although there are some good ideas in terms of using the passive systems techniques, but this book is not recommended for research students whom must refer their studies to acceptable references.

For example, the subjects of Mirrors and Cusps, Critical Velocities, Double Layers or Dipoles, and Quadrupoles in this monograph were initiated by the fIrst International Workshop on Relation between Laboratory and Space Plasmas held in Tokyo in 1980 which was well received, in this connection in particular thankfully by the late Professor Hannes Alfven with encouraging communica tions, inspiring me to studies of critical velocities, electrical version offield line merging-reconnection, and Unconventional Plasmas. Although the subject of this monograph was partly included also in topics at the URSI Workshop on Nonlinear and Environmental Electromagnetics in 1984, at the second Wo- shop on Relation between Laboratory and Space Plasmas in 1986, and at the URSI Symposium on Environmental and Space Electromagnetics in 1989, the main subject: Dusty and Dirty Plasmas and EHD (electrohydrodynamics) was discussed exclusively at the later Symposium in 1992, resulting in the fIrst monograph, Dusty and Dirty Plasmas with Noise and Chaos in Space and in the Laboratory in this fIeld for which Professor John E.

About the Author
Jeffrey M. Perloff is a professor in and chair of the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California at Berkeley. His textbooks are Modern Industrial Organization (co-authored with Dennis Carlton) and Microeconomics. Professor Perloff has been an editor of Industrial Relations and an associate editor of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics. He is currently an associate editor of the Journal of Productivity Analysis and edits the Journal of Industrial Organization Education. A fellow of the American Agricultural Economics Association, his economic research covers industrial organization, marketing, labor, trade, and econometrics. He has consulted with a number of nonprofit organizations and government agencies including the Federal Trade Commission and the Departments of Commerce, Justice, and Agriculture.

Can an economics book be funny? Yes, it can!

Purchased for an intermediate micro class. Not only is the material explained well with real-life examples, but you get the added plus of the author's dry sense of humor in the content and as footnotes! Having the answers to many of the problems in the back is great for review. Recommended!

Well written, quirky and relevant!

It's well written and informative, but it handles more like a mathematics textbook than an economics survey. That is understandable considering the heavy emphasis on Calculus concepts. Nonetheless, the author is quirky and personable. If you like professor humor, good quotes, and relevant examples, this is the book for you and your class!

This book has been pretty helpful in explaining the formulas and concepts that I missed in class. The examples were informative and allowed me to see what was going on. Obviously an economics book is pretty dry but other than that a great textbook.

About the Author

Dr. Suresh Chandra Satapathy is currently working as Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Anil Neerukonda Institute of Technology and Sciences (ANITS), Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. He obtained his PhD in Computer Science Engineering from JNTUH, Hyderabad and Master degree in Computer Science and Engineering from National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, Odisha. He has more than 27 years of teaching and research experience. His research interest includes machine learning, data mining, swarm intelligence studies and their applications to engineering. He has more than 98 publications to his credit in various reputed international journals and conference proceedings. He has edited many volumes from Springer AISC and LNCS in past and he is also the editorial board member in few international journals. He is a senior member of IEEE and Life Member of Computer society of India. Currently, he is the National Chairman of Division-V (Education and Research) of Computer Society of India.

Dr. J.K. Mandal has M.Sc. in Physics from Jadavpur University in 1986, M.Tech. in Computer Science from University of Calcutta. He was awarded PhD. in Computer Science & Engineering by Jadavpur University in 2000. Presently, he is working as Professor of Computer Science & Engineering and former Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Management, Kalyani University, Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal for two consecutive terms. He started his career as lecturer at NERIST, Arunachal Pradesh in September, 1988. He has teaching and research experience of 28 years. His areas of research include coding theory, data and network security, remote sensing and GIS based applications, data compression, error correction, visual cryptography, steganography, security in MANET, wireless networks and unify computing. He has produced 11 PhD degrees, three submitted (2015) and 8 are ongoing. He has supervised 3 M.Phil and 30 M.Tech thesis. He is life member of Computer Society of India since 1992, CRSI since 2009, ACM since 2012, IEEE since 2013 and Fellow member of IETE since 2012, Executive member of CSI Kolkata Chapter. He has delivered invited lectures and acted as program chair of many international conferences and also edited 9 volumes of proceedings from Springer AISC series, CSI 2012 from McGraw-Hill, CIMTA 2013 from Procedia Technology, Elsevier. He is reviewer of various International Journals and Conferences. He has over 355 articles and 5 books published to his credit.

Dr. Siba K. Udgata is a Professor of School of Computer and Information Sciences, University of Hyderabad, India. He is presently heading Centre for Modelling, Simulation and Design (CMSD), a high performance computing facility at University of Hyderabad. He has got his Masters followed by Ph.D in Computer Science (mobile computing and wireless communication). His main research interests are Wireless Communication, Mobile Computing, Wireless Sensor Networks and Intelligent Algorithms. He was a United Nations Fellow and worked in the United Nations University/ International Institute for Software Technology (UNU/IIST), Macau as research fellow in the year 2001. Dr. Udgata is working as a principal investigator in many Government of India funded research projects mainly for development of wireless sensor network applications and application of swarm intelligence techniques. He has published extensively in refereed international journals and conferences in India as well as abroad. He was also in the editorial board of many Springer LNCS/LNAI and Springer AISC Proceedings. 

Prof. Vikrant Bhateja is Associate Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Shri Ramswaroop Memorial Group of Professional Colleges (SRMGPC), Lucknow and also the Head (Academics & Quality Control) in the same college. His area of research include digital image and video processing, computer vision, medical imaging, machine learning, pattern analysis and recognition, neural networks, soft computing and bio-inspired computing techniques. Charles Martin is a poet, critic, and translator. His translation of Ovid s Metamorphoses received the Harold Morton Landon Award from the Academy of American Poets in 2004. In 2005, he received an Award for Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He is the author of Signs & Wonders and Starting from Sleep: New and Selected Poems.

A Life Intercepted

A Life Intercepted by Charles Martin is a heartbreakingly poignant and incredibly riveting story about unconditional love and forgiveness. This engrossing novel is thought-provoking and moving and it carries an emotional and compelling message about selfless love and the restorative power of forgiveness.

From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, there are two constants in Matthew Rising’s life: his deep and abiding love for his wife Audrey and his love for the game of football. His father instilled a love and understanding of the game and Matthew set and broke numerous records on his meteoric rise as a quarterback through high school and college. With Audrey at his side, Matthew is poised to begin his career as a NFL quarterback when he is arrested and quickly convicted for a heinous crime. Gaining an early release for good behavior, Matthew returns to his small hometown that has turned its back on him where he hopes to find Audrey and win back her love.

Matthew is humbled by his success and he always gives credit to his fellow teammates for their victories. He is adored by everyone in his hometown and they are quick to pay homage to the small town boy who made it big. When everything falls down around him, it is shocking how few people believe in his innocence and how fast that love and adulation turns to disgust and hatred. Despite this lack of faith from his supporters, Matthew worked through his anger early in his incarceration and after he is released from prison, he is not interested in proving his innocence. Instead he is focused on repairing his relationship with Audrey and he is willing to make any sacrifice to achieve his goal.

The depth of Matthew’s character is demonstrated through not only his actions but his innermost thoughts as well. Thankfully, he is not portrayed as a perfect person without flaws. He still has lingering anger toward the person responsible for his downfall but he works hard to keep his negative emotions from taking over his life.

A Life Intercepted is written in first person through Matthew’s perspective so all of the characters are filtered through his point of view. It is easy to see why he fell in love with Audrey and the fact that she was always his biggest cheerleader underscores how devastating a blow it is when she loses faith in him. But this limited viewpoint makes it difficult to understand how or why Audrey could believe the worst of someone who was never anything but genuinely kind, loving and giving no matter what the circumstances.

A Life Intercepted is an absolutely spellbinding novel with an unusual but believable storyline. While it occasionally gets a little bogged down with the technical aspects of football, this information is essential to the overall plot. The characters are multi-faceted and fully developed with all too human flaws and weaknesses. The overall story is incredibly fascinating and it is extremely tempting to read ahead to find out how the story ends. But it is well worth the wait because Charles Martin brings A Life Intercepted to a very heartfelt and emotional conclusion.

Totally disappointed.

I have been a great fan of Charles Martin for years, ever since he started coming to our Moveable Feast author luncheons in Pawleys Island. I think he's a fantastic writer, and I love his lyrical style. I have read all his books and eagerly await for the next one.

Having said that, I must say that A Life Intercepted was a huge disappointment. I'm sorry, all you die hard Charles Martin fans, but it was totally unbelievable. Here you have a couple who are so in love and so committed to each other than Audrey flies out onto the football field and tackles an opposing player she think is unfairly hurting Matthew. The Matthew she loves is honest, trustworthy, dependable and never looks at another woman. Yet, she believes Matthew is capable of horrendous sexual crimes, even when he swears he isn't, and when one of the women involved is someone they have a history with. Remember the ring Audrey had made for Matthew, which is then stolen by Ginger and used to gash Matthew's forehead? Instead of fighting for her man, Audrey won't talk to him, runs away and hides. Come on. If it were my husband, I would be screaming his innocence to everyone I knew and demanding a better investigation. I certainly would have fired his attorney who doesn't seem to know anything about "date rape" drugs or Ginger's deviousness. Plus, this is supposedly 12 years ago, long before the NFL started treating abuse and sex crimes by players more seriously. I can't believe, with a multi-million dollar player in jeopardy, that they wouldn't have called in some legal eagles to defend the poor guy. After all, if the team is willing to hire his buddies and his trainers, they must think he's worth something. Another point: the crime took place in New York, but he's tried in Georgia. That just isn't going to happen. Unless I missed something, Dee, who doesn't know Ginger's role in Audrey and Matthew's high school days, visits Ginger and all of a sudden Ginger confesses all. Doesn't sound like the Ginger I know. Then when all is resolved, Matthew and Audrey are reunited and the sky is blue, angels are singing and everyone is ecstatically happy. Matthew must be a saint, because most men would be a tad upset with a wife who left him in his time of need. I'm sorry, unbelievable.

I give it 3 stars, though, because it is Charles Martin.

An Emotionally Satisfying Journey

Charles Martin is, and always will be, an auto buy for me. This time I was lucky enough to read an advance copy of A Life Intercepted, requested and received through NetGalley.com in exchange for my honest review. At first I was overwhelmed by the information and detail on the game of football, but as I read further I realized that my knowledge base was growing. I began to make connections between the game, the mechanics, the emotions and the story.
And, oh the story - it's a second chance at love, a second chance at life, a look at fame, a look at selfless sacrifice, a story of growth, of redemption, of forgiveness.
Charles Martin invites readers into the mind and heart of his main character and relates the story in that voice. There are religious references and many discussions of values, morals, honesty, the nature of love and the power of forgiveness. I read it over several days and I enjoyed every minute of the emotional ride Charles Martin took me on - did I cry? I'll admit I sobbed openly several times.
I think A Life Intercepted would lend itself well to a book discussion group, and it certainly has a place on my keepers shelf!

Powerful, captivating, poignant.

Great insights for any thinker

Browne manages to put in to words feelings and thought patterns that we've all had at one time or another. This is powerful, touching writing that will resonate with a much larger audience than the synopsis might suggest. Browne brings a level of clarity, self-awareness, and analysis to her own thought processes that we can all aspire to.

I'm not much of a poetry person so I went in to this with some trepidation. Turns out there was no need to fear. The book is mostly prose with a few poems, and the poems have a descriptive, story-like quality to them.

A thought-provoking and personal collection of poems and short stories. I read it cover to cover in one sitting. The writing is warm and inviting, and the narratives are engaging. Above all, the entire book feels deeply personal. I came away feeling like I'd granted a secret insight into the author's past and present. An excellent read!
