Become a more efficient actor by working from the other end of the spectrum!

Picking up where AFF left off, this book breaks down very specifically what you need to do to bring appropriate, truthful emotions for the camera. The work and research done on this book as to which muscles constitutes which emotion has been mapped out and explained very succinctly. The book and the included tools have saved me lots of precious time trying to figure out how to recreate a particular emotion truthfully on my face so that it is exactly how I want to communicate to the audience exactly what I felt inside. The videos are an excellent supplement, and the audio for sense memory is brilliant such that you can listen and work on your sense memory if you are riding the subway, or you can do it as a daily meditation.

The best part about working on specific muscles on my face to create the desired emotion is that I would start to feel something when the original intention was just to move the muscles I wasn't used to moving. When the muscles were activated, I(!) started feeling that particular intended emotion, simply by working on the specific muscle groups! You can indeed achieve your desired outcome by working from the other end of the spectrum, making you a much more efficient actor in that regard.

John's work on emotional alignment for the camera that is encapsulated in this book (and other tools) is not only unique, it is a must have for every actor who wants to make it in the film and TV industry. If every actor reads and truly implements the tools, success is inevitable.

Awesome High-Level Technical Book on Acting Taught in an Easy to Understand Way.

I really appreciate that John included a quick refresher section on the ‘moving parts of an emotion’ in Chapter 3—this was a helpful reminder of all the great knowledge I picked up in the first book, AFF1. John’s writing style is clear, concise, and very easy to read and understand.

What I personally found to be one of the most valuable takeaways from John's 2nd book (this one) was the breakdown in the intensity of emotions being expressed and whether or not they are in alignment with how I really feel--they were not. I was either feeling a lot inside and not expressing enough or the exact opposite; being that I was expressing too much and not feeling that much inside. I also noticed that not all of the 7 Universal Emotions (Happy, Anger, Sad, Surprise, Contempt, Disgust, Fear) came naturally to me--it was much easier to display certain emotions over others. . This has been very eye-opening as it shows me EXACTLY what I need to work on. No guessing, no wasted time, straight to the point. And I believe that because I know this, the real growth in bettering my craft can begin now. Thank you John!

ACTING FACE to FACE 2 is making me A BETTER ACTOR!!

This book is worth it's weight in gold! It picks up where Acting Face to Face 1 leaves off. In my opinion, both of these books are "must haves" for both novice and career actors. They are vital in that they show you how to effectively reveal on your face, what you are saying with your body and voice. We've all heard, and probably been given, the common acting direction-- "Just feel the moment and it will show through your eyes". A good part of the time, it's just not true! Quite often, the emotion that shows up on your face, isn't what you were feeling internally. Acting Face to Face 1 and 2 will help you, step by step, reveal your facial expressions, meaningfully, and in a way that captures the viewer's interest! Because, we all know--- "If it isn't interesting, you've lost your audience"!! I'm using both books constantly as I develop my character roles, and am seeing dramatic (pardon the pun) differences in my work!

I like to consider myself fairly advanced at NLHE. But I kept coming back to the same weakness in my game; the math. I've never been big on math in poker, even though I recognize it's incredibly important. Most of it stems from my weakness at all aspects of math, but also because I could never find a book that clearly explained it to me without becoming overwhelming. When it comes to math I need something simple and also something that grabs and keeps my attention. This book did just that. You get plenty of examples to practice, and even charts and "cheat sheets" to make it even easier. Whether you're an advanced player or a beginner at NLHE I believe this is a book you need to have in your poker library.

Many valuable concepts

It's a quick and easy read lots of solid concepts explained. I liked how it gave you two ways to calculate pot odds: the ratio method and the percentage method. I was only familiar with the ratio method before reading this. My only issue with the book is there are a number of typos. Not necessarily misspellings but using the word "two" when it should have been "to" and other similar scenarios. Just little things like that. Not a big deal but it does make me question how closely some of the material was checked. Either way for such a great price there's no excuse not to read it if you're into playing poker.

Great book. I hope nobody buys this book cause I will have a great advantage over them. The author is well organized. There are great courses in the book. Probability, odds, ratios, risk reward issues, calls, bets, bluffs math issues are tough. This book deals with poker math like nobody else. It is a must to have if you play poker. I will by Alton Hardin's next book for sure

Sad for the book to end

I am so glad I picked this book for review. I had no idea it was based on a new movie coming out until I received it in the mail. Having God save my marriage personally I could relate to many things in this story.
I just love the character Miss Clara, I wish she was my friend and neighbor. Such an awesome and encouraging woman of God. I was sad for this book to end. I looked forward to sitting down and reading it. I want to see the movie now, but I am so glad I read the book first.
I have a renewed fire in me now. I want to have a closer relationship with the Lord. I want to go back to praying for the needs of my family, friends loved ones and strangers I meet. I feel like I have slacked off in that area of my life. This book has inspired me to try again. To seek the Lord in a new way. It has opened a door for me and I am excited. Now I don't know if this story will do that for you, but I sure am glad I read this book.
It isn't a "self help" or "this is the way to get God to move" book. It is a fictional story as far as I know. It's just such a wonderfully inspiring story. I like how it doesn't portray Christians as "perfect and having it all together". They make it clear it is through a relationship with Jesus that things can change in your life. Grace is shown throughout this story and that is so important.
I got so much enjoyment from this story. I felt a range of emotions and I was able to get lost in the story. I felt like I knew this family. It is such a sweet approach to an important part of Christianity. Prayer is a vital part of our relationship with Jesus.
In the back of the book there are discussion questions. So, if you want to get a small group going, the questions are back there for you already. Also there are color photos in the center of the book from the movie making. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Jesus. Also if you enjoyed Fireproof & Courageous you will probably enjoy this one as well.

This book changed me

This book is changing my life. I don’t say that about a lot of fiction books but this one opened to my eyes to an area I have been weak in: prayer.
This book portrays realistically the way a marriage can crumble, the way a woman can place all the blame on her husband and not see her own part in it, the temptations a man can face, the wounds of a young daughter.
As someone who has walked through pain in their marriage and healing I can tell you they way the healing is shown is true. It might be a bit faster because it is a book but it isn’t instant. There is anger below the surface from betrayal and Chris showed that.
Miss Clara is wonderful character, someone we all need in our lives who spurs us on and is honest with us. The book holds true to the fact that God doesn’t always answer when we want or how we want but He is always listening.
This is an excellent book and I can’t wait to see the movie that will be coming out August 28th.

Amazing!!

What an amazing book! I couldn't put this book down! I literally read it in two days. This book is such a wake up call for Christians. Praying is a powerful weapon for Christians to use and we don't seem to tap into that power. This book made me see the flaws in my own prayer life and lit a fire under me to start a new in my prayer life. Chris does any awesome job with the novelization of the movie. I loved Ms. Clara's character. She made me want to be better as a mother and wife and Christian. I felt drawn to Elizabeth and her problems and needs. I could see myself in her somewhat, I don't have all the same problems but I could see similarities in my life and hers. I can't wait to share this book with everyone I know. It makes me want to shout from the roof tops!

I feel the need in my own life for a prayer change and I know anyone who reads this book will be changed. Read this and then give your copy to a friend. Let's start a prayer revival!

Winston is Professor Emeritus of Decision Sciences at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University and is now a Professor of Decision and Information Sciences at the Bauer College at the University of Houston. Very good for beginners in OR

I have completed my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Statistics without a little knowledge about Optimization. Fortunately, I came across this book. This book has played a big role by creating for me a career in Operations Research. It contains many industrial problems to demonstrate the usefulness of the subject. It replaces the instructor by its good explanatory texts. With this book, you are guaranteed to have a break through in the area of Operations research.

This is one of the excellent industrial engineering books. From deterministic and simple linear programming to stochastic systems such as queueing models or dynamic programming, you may read and "learn" lots of things about OR. However, for stochastic cases you will need extra help for its matematics. But if you want to learn something about industrial engineering or something related with it, that is the book you must buy.
